The Legacy of Cleary Homes

Cleary Homes was founded by Leo Cleary in 1958. A Peterborough native returning from WWII, Leo (better known as Ike) completed his Carpenter apprenticeship in Prescott, Ontario. After several years perfecting his trade in the Peterborough area, he and partner Ray Moran formed the Cleary & Moran home building operation. Ten successful years later, both entrepreneurs separated to begin their own home building firms. Cleary Homes today has become one of the largest and most respected names in the land development and residential construction industries in the Peterborough area.

Today, "Pat" Cleary, the youngest of the ten Cleary children, is the President of Cleary Homes and has been at the helm for over 15 years. Pat started as a young boy by following his Dad around the job sites on weekends and during his summer holidays and eventually graduated to a broom and shovel. Pat would go on to apprentice as a carpenter after finishing school. During his training, he worked as a finish carpenter in Western Canada on large mansions, some exceeding 16,000 square feet. "The woodwork was incredible" explains Pat “and I learned a great deal about craftsmanship and quality work”.

Returning home after several years and with well honed skills plus a passion for Architecture, it was inevitable that Pat would take the helm at Cleary Homes. ”To be a Home Builder is a vision I have carried from a very young age and to head the company that my father started over 40 years ago, you just can’t imagine the amount of pride and satisfaction achieving that goal has given me.”

With extensive experience in large custom homes as well as innovative entry level and mid range homes, Pat is an accomplished designer and draftsman and still personally designs their showcase model homes. Both Pat and the late Ike Cleary are Past Presidents of the Peterborough and District Home Builders Association. Pat is a past director of the Ontario Home Builders Association as well as Past Chairman of the OHBA Technical Committee.

Cleary Homes is the recipient of numerous industry awards including the Ontario New Home Warranty Program (Tarion) "Presidents" award.

More than ever, we have a responsibility to the natural environment around us. While items in our homes such as insulation levels and quality construction techniques minimize heat loss, they don't seem to have the same appeal as perhaps a skylight or a whirlpool bath. We believe that there are critical considerations to be made when purchasing a well built home. With home heating costs continuing to rise, we challenge our new home purchasers to reflect on these important considerations. And, increased energy efficiency and the most advanced technologies in communication and electrical wiring systems will ensure enhanced, future value. Cleary Homes will continue to be on the leading edge.
